The term “kung fu” roughly translates to mean “exceptional ability gained through hard work.” We are fortunate in our modern world to have many examples right at our fingertips- take a quick look on YouTube of the mind-boggling feats of B-Boys, the incredible body control of professional ballerinas, or the smooth flow of an accomplished free runner. These are just a few examples of different types of kung fu. What usually comes to mind when kung fu is mentioned however, is the legends of old kung fu masters, with animal-like reflexes and able to punch hard enough to throw men though walls. The exciting thing is that some of those masters did exist, and some of those “impossible” feats that they were legendary for were actually accomplished. There are specific types of training that were developed over thousands of years, kept in utter secrecy, and only passed down to trusted students.
I am opening up this exciting program for just a few trustworthy individuals who wish to learn a complete system of traditional kung fu.
I am excited to meet those of you eager to learn the amazing martial art of Preying Mantis Kung Fu. It is truly an experience that enriches many areas of your life and expands your boundaries as nothing else can. There will be lots of hard work and sweat, but that is good because it makes the rewards that much more satisfying.
To get started, contact Sifu Nic at (505) 350-1161 or email at Nic.Mantis@gmail.com and set up an interview.
The intensive program is designed by Grandmaster James Shyun, sole inheritor of the system, as the most effective way to learn Eight Step Preying Mantis Kung Fu. It is broken into 3 stages:
Stage 1: Forge the body into a “martial arts” body by retraining reflexes, introducing alignment and coordination, and building intense strength and flexibility. Instill the foundation aspects of kung fu in order for the body to be able to move properly for techniques.
Stage 2: Drill devastating techniques into muscle memory through two person applications. Build sensitivity to be able to flow with another person and from one technique smoothly into another.
Stage 3: Put it all together by bringing the training up to a new level of intensity. Speed, fluidity, balance, and power are all integrated, all while the body is being hardened with external and internal training methods.
You will know how to defend yourselves and others.
You will be eligible and fully prepared to participate in the Sifu (Instructor) Test held once yearly by the Eight Step Preying Mantis System and American Chinese Martial Arts Federation.
You will know over forty different throws, joint locks for nearly any joint in the body, high kicks, low kicks, how to strike with knees and elbows, many ways to strike with the hand, palm and fist, how to fully defend yourself, and of course the legendary Preying Mantis techniques.
You will know many traditional Preying Mantis forms and exercises, some of which have traditionally only been shown to certain trusted students.
Your internal energy will be much stronger from tai chi and chi kung exercises.
You will be taught business principals in how to open and operate your own school.
You will understand how to teach martial arts and how to use it to improve the lives of others.
You will understand nutrition and healthy living habits.
You will have gained a kung fu family that will always have your back, and a place to go whenever you need.
