January is here and with the new year often comes that desire to set new goals. Push-ups are a seemingly universal measure of strength- and besides the obvious benefits to your arms and chest are a great core workout as well. Push (haha) your boundaries by getting to 100 push-ups with us! This is a six week program where you do not have to come into the school or even be a member to participate (though we would love to see you). All you have to do is see how many push-ups you can do straight through, and follow the chart we will post each week.
We can't take the credit for this program- the lovely folks at onehundredpushups.com have developed this, including a free smartphone app. Go show them some love and download their app or visit their site. as one would expect, they have a ton of good info on push-ups.
Does it work? Well, we tested it, and we can say with confidence that it works. Is it easy? Not really. But difficulty is what defines a challenge. And you know what? it's 2014, and you will do 100 push-ups in 6 weeks.
We will post the weekly schedule here and remind you on Facebook (so like us if you haven't) and update us on your progress each push-up day on Facebook so we can cheer you on! It's easier with people sweating alongside you, so come into class and we can all do it together.
Ok, ok, enough talk. Here is week one! Step one is to see how many you can do straight through. 0-5 means you are in column 1, 6-10 means you are in column 2, and above that is column 3. Can you do 50? jump to week 3 on the site or start from the beginning. If day 1 is on a Monday, then day 2 will be Wednesday, and day 3 on Friday, with two days off following. Rest is important, too!
Day 1: 60 second rest between sets.
